Red Wine Sangria

I know what you're thinking, this is not a dessert! This is one of the first really warm weekends we have had in NYC, it's going to be 67 degrees out today! As the weather is so beautiful, today calls for something refreshing and of course alcoholic. This is one of my favorite Sangria recipes. If you can, try to get blood oranges, they're at the end of their season, but sometimes are still available. Even without, it's amazing. Time to pull out the lawn chairs, head up to the roof, drink some sangria and get my tan on before finals start next week!

Red Wine Sangria

2 small to medium Oranges, chopped into 1 inch sections
2 c. Strawberries, quartered
1 750-ml bottle of fruity Red Wine [Merlot works best]
1/2 c. Orange Juice
1/4 c. Brandy
1/4 c. Sugar

1. In a large pitcher, mix orange juice and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add in Brandy and stir until mixed.

2. Add orange pieces and strawberries to the pitcher, mix well. Press orange pieces and strawberries lightly against inside of pitcher to squeeze some of the juice out of them.

3. Add bottle of red wine and stir until mixed in.

4. Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate for about six to eight hours. Can be left overnight. The longer it is refrigerated before drinking, the fruitier it will be.

5. Remove from fridge. Pour over ice into tumblers and serve. Great with tapas!
